About the Event

Presentation Topic: The cost of violence against women vs the federal budget ($26 billion vs $1.1 billion)

Brenton Turley,  Founder at 'Home Safe Defense', is an ally and a strong advocate of women’s rights. Aiming to spark social change, he works towards the prevention of domestic violence by encouraging men to stand with women and break the silence; fighting sexism with a broader definition of masculinity. The W.H.Y. Campaign is a global solidarity initiative that welcomes expanding the curiosity of male allies to pro-actively stand against all forms of DFV, especially gender-based violence in all spheres of our civil society.

Brenton wrote a very informative and insightful article on LinkedIn called 'Violence against women affects everyone'. Published on 22 Sept 2021. "Violence against women and their children results in significant personal, government, and business costs. The total annual cost of violence against women and their children in Australia is estimated to be $21.6 billion each year". Brenton will present a case study on how $21.6 billion each year in Australia could be better spend on prevention rather than crisis interventions!
